It's too early for snow! But, that's what I saw when I looked out
my window bright and early this morning. Snuck out to see what
the temperature was...32 F...and rushed back to the warmth of
my bed...after I turned up the heat.
The snow is mostly gone from the lawn now, but still lingers on
the roof tops. Certainly made for a quick and brisk walk. As
I walked this morning my thoughts were drawn to this being the
last day of the Christmas fabric give away and what I could
do for the last question.
Memories of Christmas seemed to pop into my mind. I
thought of when my sister and I were little and how we would
drink lots of water so we would have to keep getting up to
go to the bathroom allowing us to see if Santa had come yet.
And of course, each time we got up we had to drink more water.
Then I thought about how we always lined up on Christmas
morning from youngest to oldest with our children to head
out to the living room to open presents. Memories of the
children's excitement flooded my mind and I could see the
wrapping paper flying off their gifts.
Memories of making cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve
brought a smile to my face especially as my children now
make cookies on Christmas Eve to leave for Santa. And,
of course I couldn't leave out "Santa Mouse". Once we
read that story and it became a favorite year after year,
a piece of cheese was always placed on a branch of our tree
and the next morning their was always a little gift left for them
where the cheese had been.
Sweet memories of our children acting out the nativity is
an especially choice memory. Having grandparents with
us and participating was wonderful. This is a memory
the kids talk about with great fondness. Especially now
their grandparents are gone.
I'm sure each of us have a special memory of Christmas
either as a young child or with our family now.
So, today's question: What special memory do you
have of Christmas?
Thanks for sharing this past week. It has been fun to
read your responses. Many have brought forgotten
memories to my mind.
Hope it's warm wherever you are...

I can see the wrapping paper at midnight after eat the lucky grapes and cheer for the new year ,with familly and friends opnening their gifts, and wondering who gifted you.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I found out there was no Santa! I cried and cried; I think mostly because I was lied to :P I ran from the room and stubbed my big toe and lost the toe nail! How traumatic huh? That's a bittersweet memory for me.
ReplyDeleteWe used to play a silly catch game (2's and 3's) after lunch every Christmas.... it was exhausting and great for children - lots and lots of laughs and silliness......
ReplyDeleteIt has been fun having you provoke little memories out of us!
Hugz
I love christmas with my extended family from childhood to now
ReplyDeleteHi Nola!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun Christmas memories! Don't you just love thinking about them? I love the Christmas mouse story. One time, we made little Christmas mice with candy canes and decorated our tree with them, that was a fun Christmas.
My favorite Christmas memory has to be going to my grandparents ward Christmas party on Christmas Eve. They lived in the country and the church was an old rock church, that my great-grandfather built. The recreation room was in the basement - it had a small stage and a wooden floor. Their ward always presented the Nativity and then my grandfather, who was Santa (we always knew it was him . . . :0)) would pass out paper bags filled with peanuts, a candy cane and an orange. Then they would have ice cream cones, which Santa would also scoop! On our way home, about 25 miles away, my father would tell us that he just spotted Santa's sleigh . . . we believed him every time, and would even see it blinking across the sky!!
Hugs,
Barb
My favorite memory was of Christmas Eve, my whole family would gather at my grandmother's house for dinner and presents. I would see my cousins and we would be so excited. My grandmother would give us a present of a coloring book and crayons to hold us over until later. It was great.
ReplyDeleteNola, one of my favorite memories of Christmas is when I was a little girl. We did not have indoor plumbing. Every Christmas Eve, about 7 o'clock, dad would get up and say he had to visit the outhouse. Never failed, he always ran into Santa on his way back to the house. LOL My brothers and I never seemed to figure that one out. One year, he even went so far as to drag a sleigh around the yard and shake some bells. Sure made us believers that year. (grin) This has been fun. Winona
