FOR TODAY...Thursday, January 6, 2011
Outside my window...The inversion is beginning to lift and Mr.
Sunshine is trying hard to make an appearance. Funny how it
seems warmer when the sun is shining even though the
temperature is about 26 degree F. As I look out my window
I can see the little chickadees feeding on the patio. I love
watching these little birds. This is the only one that stayed
when I tried to take a picture out the window. Brave Soul!
I am thinking...and wondering if I should add a border to my
butterfly quilt. The one in the magazine didn't have one, just
added a bright binding. What do you think? It finished at
45.5 x 54.5 inches. I think it will be ok for a cuddle quilt.
I am thankful for...clear roads and walkways. The snow
we had turned quickly to ice with the drop in temperatures
and I didn't enjoy having to be out on them.
Pondering these words..."The past is behind, learn from it.
The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here,
live it." Pres. Thomas S. Monson
From the kitchen... Tomato basil soup for lunch with
homemade whole wheat bread.
I am wearing...Levi's, white t-shirt and long sleeved
blue print shirt and warm fuzzy slippers.
I am creating...Some new files for my personal history.
Have spent a few days typing up talks I have given over
the years, rather interesting! This is a project I am focusing
on for the year.
I am going...To my daughter's for FHE this evening. Picked
up treats to share for those who completed their goals this
past week. And yes, I met mine!
I am reading..."Defined by Christ" by Toni Sorenson
(Seeing yourself through the eyes of the Savior)
I am hoping...We will soon get our January thaw!
I am hearing... The furnace running which always makes me
happy because I have a warm house. The clock ticking in
the background reminding me that time marches on and
so must I, soft music reminding me to relax and enjoy the day.
Around the house... Laundry to be done, decisions to be
made as to whether I should get out Valentines or leave
my snowmen out awhile longer. The house looks so bare
with Christmas put away and no bright, cherry colors.
One of my favorite things...Having a good day where
things just seem to go along rather smoothly.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
FHE this evening
Dropping my son off at the airport tomorrow
Cleaning house
Attending wedding reception for a couple in our
neighborhood
Church
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
This was taken when I was a little girl from the road
looking into the house. It was one of the worst winter's
we ever had. However, as children we thought it was
great fun to slide down the snow banks and walk right
on to the roof.
Happy Thursday,
Nola

I enjoyed reading your daybook! Wow! That was some snow when you were little. Don't think we ever got that much!-lol. I love to watch the birds, too. Your butterfly quilt is very pretty. I think a border would look nice on it--it will make the colors "POP." Have a great day!! Karen
ReplyDeleteI bet that snow picture was during the winter of 55-56--we had snow banks piled up to the electric lines and then another storm and we had 4 snow plows stuck in snow banks in the 4 different roads into our place--funny really!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,di and that darn cat!!
Hi Nola!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that the inversion is leaving you - I've heard that it has been pretty bad, especially for those with asthma. Plus, "Warm" is a good thing, so is feeding the chickadees!
I think a border would be so pretty - to me it's like a frame for the quilt.
I love that quote by Pres. Monson - it's so true. We need to learn from those who came before us, from our mistakes, and good fortunes. It's so important for us to live in the present, to keep our hearts and mind on today - make it count! But, looking to the future will make us remember our goals and ambitions - hopefully keeping our hands on the iron rod! I'm looking forward to reading Toni Sorensen's book as well, I know several who are reading it and like you, they love it!
I can't believe all that snow!! Isn't is unbelievable how much snow used to fall here in the West?! I remember being able to touch the telephone wires . . . on Thanksgiving! Like you said, time marches on.
Keep warm sweet friend!
Hugs,
Barb
Wow Nola, that last picture of the snow was something else. We used to have lots of snow when I was a kid, but I don't ever remember anything that bad! I love your butterfly quilt just like it is, but if you want to put a border on it, that will be great too. I have missed chatting with you. Have a good evening.
ReplyDeleteI think just a binding, Nola. There's something about the simple innocense of the quilt that might be lost if you put a border around it. I remember snow like that when I was a little girl, too!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is just lovely! Wow, that pic of the snow is something else!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and making a comment. I think we have a lot in common. The inversion has been causing my allergies to flair up which I can hardly wait for the air to improve.
ReplyDeleteI also just read the book Defined by Christ and loved it. It is a book that I will probably read again; I found it very inspiring.
I also did a journal on line; but I am not sure this is the way I want to go for sure. Through the years I have mainly just been doing it in documents.
I have loved Family History. I am a novice in doing genealogy but I did a History on my parents and I am completing a history on my Aunt Della who is now 97 years old. It has been fun to get to know her while doing this project.
Anyway, I loved reading your blog so I will follow you for sure.
Blessings to you! LeAnn
