Change of Pace

Every once in a while it is nice to do something different
that doesn't include stitching, piecing or quilting.  It
seems I've spent my spare time in the evenings doing
a little knitting for a good cause.

A good friend of mine has been knitting hats that
will go with a humanitarian group to South Africa April 1.
When she asked me a week ago at church if I would be
interested in doing a few, I jumped at the chance.  It has
been awhile since I've knitted anything.   Must admit, I
have loved making these sweet little hats and thinking
about the children that may receive them.  So far I've
completed six.

When she first told me they were to go to Africa, I
thought "why would you send winter hats there
when it is so hot?"  But, these will go to the southern
part of South Africa where they will be appreciated.

I am always touched by the kindness and goodness
of people as they reach out to help others.  And, I am
so grateful that occasionally I am able to participate
in these worthwhile projects.

  1. Hi Nola!

You are a woman of many talents! What a wonderful service you will be providing for the African people.

My husband and I were released a few months ago from our mission at our local humanitarian center, and I do miss the feeling we got from that service. We had a doctor who would make an annual trip to Tanzania, Africa, to volunteer his time to do surgical work. Even though it is hot there, they need to cover their heads, as the nights can get cold. These hats will work beautifully for that, they are so adorable. Our humanitarian center was mostly for local non-profit organizations, but we did send blankets, puppets, hats, and misc. clothing that was donated, to them.

I think you are right about changing things up once in a while, it is relaxing knitting or crocheting in the evening, especially for a good cause!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  2. They are adorable! And I know they will be much appreciated. I was wondering the same thing! When I think of Africa, I think of hot weather!! Having just completed a yarn project, I can appreciate what you said about changing things up once in awhile. It was fun taking a break from sewing/stitching. Hope you have a wonderful day!!
