While once again sorting through my old file for things to add
to my business history, I ran across some cross stitch fabric,
patterns and floss plus a couple of stamped cross stitch kits
that I had purchased eons ago with every intention of stitching
them.
But, alas they were never done. I decided that I didn't really
enjoy cross stitching. Sadly enough, I taught my mother and
she became a master cross stitcher. As her talents and abilities
increased she designed many of her own projects which,
we as her family, proudly display in our homes now. So
now my decision is do I make myself stitch these long
neglected projects or do I give them to someone whom I
know would enjoy stitching them?
I also found this stamped cross stitch kit. It is 16 x 14
inches and includes the embroidery floss.. The date on
it is 1991.
I always loved this and I think somewhere there may be
a companion stitchery. My question is: Do I open it
up and do it or is it too outdated? How long is it
going to take me? What about all my other projects
waiting to be started or completed?
Do I have enough time in this life time to do all the
projects I have purchased over the years and never
started or completed. I dread my family having to sort
through everything when I am gone and find all these
"treasures" that I never did.
I ask myself, how hard can this be? But that isn't
really the problem. It's do I really want to do it?
Surely I am not the only one with this dilemma of
unfinished purchased projects boxed away and
rediscovering them years later only to wonder what
to do with them???
Guess I will just have to think about it for awhile.

Hi Nola--I too ask myself these questions--like right now I am putting alot of work into a large quilt that I basically have worked off and on now for 7 years or so--I am on the hand quilting part--I am 62--no one in my family enjoys quilting but me--I have no grandchildren--so who will love this quilt once I am gone to be with God and his family???
ReplyDeleteI drive myself all day to stitch stitch stitch--but is that what I really want to do everyday--just because I got carried away the two years I have been blogging and doing bom's and now have a zillion to finish???
Oh and let's not forget that I too have counted cross stitch kits, crewel kits, and such that need me to do them????
I have done alot of sorting and cleaning out and I have gotten rid of a lot of the kits since I mostly quilt now--but I did hang onto some--why?????
so all I can say is--you have company in your "problem" there!!! and that is a pretty sampler!!!!
Hugs, Di and miss gracie
I did the same thing a few years ago with lots of stitchery kits and books and yarn and such. I organized it all, took lots of pictures, wrote descriptions and listed them on ebay. I sold just about everything and reclaimed all that space in my sewing room. It was a very cleansing process...no pun intended! I recommend it.

I used to cross stitch too. I quit when my eyes wouldn't let me do it any longer. I have alot of that stuff in a box somewhere. I have more quilting patterns, kits and fabric than I will ever get used up. Some how it's easier to shop for it than it is to get it made. I've been thinking about doing ebay or maybe just taking it to the Hospice store. I'm just trying to enjoy what I am doing and not buy alot more.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and open it if you get some done or you get it all done what ever happens you will enjoy what you do. It lookslike it would be fun to do. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteNola, I too have lots of kits and projects that I just never started. I also had lots of yarn that I bought when I was really into crocheting. I have given all but my wool and cotton yarn to our daughter. I still make dishcloths with the cotton and scarves with the wool. Plus I want to learn to knit socks with some of the wool. I used to do counted cross stitch, but haven't done much since I became interested in quilting. I am just not ready to let go of it yet, though. I still think I may do some counted cross stitch in the future. I have really become hooked on embroidery. It rates right up there with quilting for me at the moment. So my advice would be to take a little time and think about it. If you really don't feel like doing any of the kits, then find them new homes. Our tastes change. No harm in that. I don't think embroidery/cross stitch ever really gets outdated. Look at everyone who loves vintage things. Enjoy going through your stuff. Winona
ReplyDeletethat is a lovely design and would be beautiful finished........I would start on something like this and it might take me awhile, but then again, if it comes along pretty and easily for me, I'd finish it quicker. I haven't cross stitched in awhile. I don't think it's outdated, LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteHi Nola!
ReplyDeleteJust trying to catch up on my blogging buddies!! Time just seems to slip away from me these days!
I loved your daybook! It just seems like this winter is going to last forever! I know that Spring will come . . . but when?!
I love going back and finding wonderful memories that have been stashed away for years, they just make me feel warm. I think it's wonderful that you are writing a history of you life and business - your kids will love it. I'm not sure I have ever met anyone as ambitious as you! You seem to have endless energy!
My oldest daughter will be 36 in August - where does the time go? She was in a car accident the other night, and just the thought of her or the kids getting hurt, made my heart stop! They were all okay, no injuries, but it sure made me stop and think about how precious they are to me.
I have so many unfinished projects! One that I really want to finish is a beautiful cross-stitch pattern that I started when my granddaughter was at Primary's. I would sit in her room and cross-stitch for hours! I never finished it - I guess it just reminded me of that time, and some not so great memories. I need to finish it and display it - to remind me of the blessings that we received! I think your cross-stitch kits are so pretty - I know that hospitals and other facilities always love donations like that... :0)
Warm hugs,
Barb
