Two Finishes!

A few days ago my daughter stopped by and asked if I
would teach her how to knit a dish cloth.  She wanted
to make one for a friend.  Of course, I was delighted!
It isn't often I get the opportunity to work with her as
she is so very talented.  Decided I might as well make
one for myself as it has been a long time since I
did any knitting.

 












Not sure I'm crazy about the pink variegated yarn,
but it was on hand and is now finished.  This was a
nice change from all the stitching and quilting I've
been doing lately.  Think I'll do a few more as
they work up so quickly.

Completed hand quilting and sewing the binding
on this little piece this afternoon.  Added a
few little buttons to give it some variety.

Still trying to decide if I should quilt the squares
I skipped.  It doesn't lay quite as flat as I like
which I'm sure is due to the batting I used.  Will
probably live with it for a few days and if it
continues to "bug" me will add a few more
stitches.  If not, will call it good for now. Sorry
the picture doesn't due justice to the colors.

Before I share my finished project, I'd like to ask for
your prayers in behalf of my young friend, Daniel,
who is fighting his second round of leukemia.

Daniel spent most of his high school years fighting
this dreaded disease and was in and out of hospitals.
Finally, his senior year in high school things looked
good and he was able to go to school.  Then in
March of this year, after going in for a blood check,
it was discovered his leukemia was back and things
weren't looking so good.  But, Daniel is a fighter!

He was determined he would attend Seminary
Graduation and walk with his Senior Class in
June of this year which he did.  We were so proud
of him.  It was touch and go as he had just gone a
round of chemo.

Thursday morning about 4:00 a.m. he was taken into
ICU with a fever of 104F and fluid on his lungs.
He is still in ICU.  I just spoke with him and his
Mother and he is hanging in there.  The Bone
Marrow aspirate they just did shows the cancer
is increasing and the last two chemo treatments
aren't working.  So they will go back to what
they used in May.  They were so hoping they
could do a bone marrow transplant but that is on
hold for now.

So, if you could find it in your hearts to say a
prayer for him and his family, it would mean a
lot.  His mother is the backbone of the family
and is the soul support as his father has been
diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's.

Finally finished my table topper last evening.
It has only taken me a year.  LOL

It feels so good to cross off one more completed
project from my list.

Now on to the next one.  Center is all pieced.  I used
the mini charm pack squares from Moda's
"Remembrance" I received in the mail after
submitting my "One Star" blocks.  Hopefully I
will have a chance to work on it more this weekend.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY ---- Thursday, July 7, 2011

Outside my window...The sky has filled in with
clouds and there is a slight breeze bringing up
the monsoon weather from the South.  It is really
warm and muggy outside and there is a slight chance
we could get a little rain.

I am thinking... of my Grandfather Davis.  Today
is his birthday.  Although he passed away before I was
born I feel a bond with him---maybe because our
birthdays are separated by just a few days or
because Mother shared such wonderful memories of
him with us as we grew up.  He was a very loving
and kind man who became both Father and Mother
to his children after Grandmother passed away.

I am thankful... For wonderful friends.  I have
been blessed throughout my life to have good friends
who have always been there for me through the good,
bad, hard, as well as wonderful times.  Their
influence has played a big part in who I am today.

From the learning rooms...This thought keeps
running through my mind, "To have a friend, you must
be a friend."  I  have learned that it takes work to be a
friend...a good friend.  And, I wonder sometimes if
I am doing  all that I can to be a good friend to those
around  me. I know I can always do better.

In the kitchen...  Just put left overs from lunch
with friends in the fridge.  We tried a new Mexican
restaurant nearby and it is definitely a place I will
be returning to.

I am wearing... Tan capri's, lavender shirt and
flip flops.

I am creating...A brief history of my elementary
school years.  It is something I started several years
ago and need to get finished.

I am going...To have my family here for FHE
this evening.  Planning a Spaghetti dinner, but am
afraid I will be still be too full to enjoy it.

I am wondering...When I am going to get my
"Twinkle, Twinkle" finished.  Just have one more
block to quilt and then figure out what to do on
the border.  Wish I could just sit and quilt all day
but alas my poor arm doesn't like me doing that.

I am reading...Nothing at the moment.   Need a
really good book.

I am hoping...To get my green beans staked up
today.  I planted pole beans due to lack of space
and they really need something to grow up on.

I am looking forward to...A relaxing weekend.

I am hearing...The CD "Dreaming in the Light of
His Love" by James Oneil Miner.


One of my favorite things...Cool, refreshing
fruit smoothies. 

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Work Saturday and possibly Friday if my
job-sharing friend has jury duty.  She'll
know for sure when she calls in this evening.
FHE
House and Yard work
Pretty much the same old things I do every
day.

One Down-----

-----Eleven more to go!

It has been such fun stitching this block using
Sticky-fabri-solvy.  The lines have been clear and
sharp and the best thing about it is I didn't have
to spend "forever" tracing the design.  I am totally
in love with this product and am very excited
because my local quilting shop is now carrying it.

Have printed off  six more designs forHocuspocusville
and have three adhered to the fabric.  I know these
won't be completed in time for Halloween this
year, but hopefully by next year I can show the
finished project.

Now I'm off to finish April's "Little Birdie"
stitchery and do a little more quilting.
