happened to glance out my bedroom window and I saw
this sweet little woodpecker (I think it is a woodpecker.
Karen you would know) searching for breakfast in my
Maple tree.
It was hard for him as three magpies would come
swooping along and land on the branches around him.
He would fly off and then return a little later. Glad he
could find some nourishment among the bark of the
tree.
Guess I will have to see if I can purchase some suet
for him at the store. Also need to get some bird seed
for the chickadees that are hovering looking for
food.
This little woodpecker made my day begin with a
smile. I love seeing the birds out my window!
It looks like a Northern Flicker to me. You can read more about it here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Flicker
ReplyDeleteI love birds and I love to watch them eat--thanks for taking the photos!!
ReplyDeleteI also have the pattern to do the bluework snowmen that you finished--but am working on another blue one at the moment--along with a zillion other projects--
Happy winter--
hugs, love, Di and miss gracie
Terry is absolutely right. It is a Northern Flicker, a member of the woodpecker family. They are very beautiful. When they fly away, there is a flash of gold from under their wings. Great capture, Nola!!
