of plaid flannels to make a quilt we saw pictured in a
quilt magazine. The years slipped by and we never
got around to it.
Today seemed like a good day to preshrink the flannel,
press and cut it into squares. They will now become a
cozy quilt for my son to use when watching TV, etc.
He has hinted rather strongly that he would like a
new and larger quilt for Christmas as the lap quilt I
made him a few years ago just doesn't quite cut it
anymore.
Laid them all out on the floor this afternoon and
am really struggling with the look of all the
different plaids. The quilt in the magazine looked
so cute, but for some reason I don't "love" these
as much as I did a few years ago. Guess I will let it
sit for a day or so before sewing them together.

Could you make them into four patch blocks and then use some plain sashing between them? Or maybe even alternate plain and plaid squares? Just a thought! I imagine a flannel quilt would be so warm and snuggly! :0)
ReplyDeleteThey would look great as a rag quilt. Very easy and quick too.
ReplyDeleteDig out the magazine and see if the pattern still moves you. If not, I say blend them with some solids and just go for it! The guys tend to love the plaid look much more than the florals!
ReplyDeleteFunny how things can change for us... I'm sure you will come up with something for them... they are lovely and great for a manquilt...

That has happened to me before. Sometimes it's hard to imagine the whole picture. When I first started scrap quilting many years ago, I was fascinated with the pictures of quilts, but had trouble when it came to putting my own together. Finally, one day, I just decided to 'do it', and was I ever glad I did. By the time I was finished, it was beautiful. Yours will be, too!!
ReplyDeleteActually, I think it will make a great quilt. One of my favorite quilts were was made by my great aunts for my wedding. It was made out of all the materials of the dresses my mother had made through the years. I treasured that quilt.
ReplyDeleteI will look forward to seeing the finished project.
Blessings to you and keep on enjoying your journey.
Oh I think I have some of these fabrics - my oldest son's favorite color is "plaid" -- don't try to tell him plaid isn't a color, he'll debate you till the cows come home (good thing he's a lawyer - LOL) anyway I've made him two rag quilts out of flannel plaids. Don't think too hard just sew them together -I'm sure your son will love it -- take care!
ReplyDeleteHow about to make a string quilt?
