Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY..Thursday, May 12, 2011

Outside my window...  It is a glorious spring day.
The sky is a brilliant blue with nary a cloud.  Birds
are busy in the garden and cotton is beginning
to fly from my neighbor's cottonwood tree.  (The
only thing marring this beautiful day.)

I am thinking...  I can finally get my patio furniture
out and cleaned so we can enjoy the outdoors,
Finally!

I am thankful for...The four seasons we enjoy
here.  Although winter has been long and it has
been a cold, wet spring, I love what each
season has to offer.  As the seasons change, I'm
always sure the approaching one is my favorite,
with the exception of winter.  There is nothing
more enjoyable than seeing new life springing
forth as the winter snows fade away.  I love the
brilliant colors of the spring flowers and seeing
all the blossoms bursting on the trees as well
as the greening up of the grass.

From the learning rooms...I am learning that
although there is nothing I enjoy more than
working out in the yard, I am going to have to
limit myself.  My lymphodema has been flaring
up and so now I must slow down and let
others help,

From the kitchen...Southern BBQ chicken in the
crock pot for dinner this evening.  Trying out a
new recipe and it is already smelling yummy!

I am wearing...Levi's, pink floral shirt and flip
flops.

I am creating...A baptismal stitchery for my
granddaughter.

I am going...Walking when I finish here.  Had to
work this morning.  Really prefer the early
morning hours for walking, but think it will be
ok as it isn't too warm yet.

I am reading...Just finished Mary Higgin Clark's
latest book.  Need to stop at the library as I have
a notice another book is waiting for me.

I am hoping...The new grass seed I put down will
soon be sprouting.  My neighbor accidentally killed
a small area of my lawn last fall.  Hopefully, all
the rain we've been having has not washed out
the seed.

I am hearing...Music from my neighbor's yard,
birds chirping in the tree just outside my patio
door, and the clocking ticking.

Around the house...Normal everyday things waiting
to be done.

One of my favorite things...Being able to talk with
my son and daughter in law via Skype and not
being limited in our time.  We had such a great
visit on Mother's Day.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
FHE here tonight
Tending my granddaughter tomorrow
Working on Saturday
Cleaning house
Stitching
Church on Sunday

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Three of my grandchildren with their colored
Easter Invitations.  They were to color them and
bring them back to the party for a special surprise.

Good Times

We have been working and playing hard the last few days.

The store where I work had strawberries on sale for
a couple of days so my daughter and I decided we
would make some freezer jam.

As we worked together I couldn't help but recall the
summer I was married and spending time with my
mother canning and how much fun we had working
together.

Later we all got together to have FHE and
celebrate Cinco de Mayo at my son's home where he
fixed his famous "taco's".  After dinner we took the kids
outside where they added their hand prints to the
lid of the toy box he had restored for me.  I had
asked to have this done as my "Mother's Day" gift.
Ian's name and age (7 1/2) didn't show up very
good.  We may have to redo it.

After we cleaned off the craft paint, Brian surprised the
kids with sparklers.  It was still pretty light outside but
being a school night, we couldn't wait until dark.  The
kids didn't care whether it was light or dark!

It didn't take long for all the neighborhood kids to join
in the fun.  Thankfully, he is always prepared with
extra.

As I was downloading the pictures from my camera, I
thought again of this little saying I had  posted a while
back: "Treasure the moments.  If you don't treasure the
moments, you'll never be able to treasure the memories."

Well, I have certainly treasured these moments we have
shared as a family and I hope the grandkids will treasure
the memories we are making.

Take care,

Nola

Block One Completed

I'm excited to finally have completed block one of the
Vignette mystery quilt by  Leanne.  It took much longer
than I thought it would, but I'm pleased that everything
fit when I sewed it together.

Keep smiling,
Nola
