The Celebration Contiues

WARNING:  This post is full of pictures!

Yesterday my family and I spent the day at
Snowbird Summer/Ski Resort in Big Cottonwood
Canyon playing and continuing my birthday
celebration.  And, what fun we had!  Left
early in the morning and didn't get home until
about 8:30 that night.  Thought I'd share a
few pictures of the family and some of the
fun things we did.

Then and Now

THEN

Seventy years ago on a Saturday evening, I made my
appearance into this beautiful world.

NOW

Seven years ago I wasn't sure I would be here to
see "70".   I am so grateful to still be here to
celebrate life!

This has been a memorable birthday made
extra special by my children.  It was fun to
drive up to my home and see a big "Happy
Birthday" sign and balloons.  My daughter had
called last evening saying the boys had a
surprise for me and would probably be there
when I came home from work.  I figured they
had made cards and little gifts.  I was excited
to come home from work and see them.

Unbeknown to me, my daughter planned a
surprise "brunch" for me today.  (The call was
just to make sure I was coming straight home
from work).
And I was surprised and overwhelmed when I
walked in the door from work and everyone yelled
"Surprise"!  I absolutely had no clue anything
special was going to take place.  She served a
yummy brunch and it was so fun to be with
dear friends.

If I had known turning "70" was going to be so much
fun, I'd have done it sooner.  lol

Well, maybe not sooner!

Playing Around

"The Fat Quarter Shop" is celebrating 10 years
with free patterns for their "Deck-ade the Halls"
quilt.  You can find them here:
 http://fatquartershop.blogspot.com

I have been downloading the patterns to
make at some point in time.  But when I saw
"Vintage Ornaments" I knew I had to at least
make up a sample ornament.

Today, in between washing and doing a little
cleaning for the 4th, I dug out some of my
scraps left from a little quilt I made the first
of the year and sewed one.  It worked up
quite quickly and would be a great way to
use up the left-over fabric as the pieces are
small.

I was thinking that these would make a
cute holiday table runner, pillow or
small wall hanging.  I'm sure there are
several other ways these could be used
besides being part of the quilt.
Just have to put my thinking cap on.

July or October!

Today was our class at Pine Needles and we started a
small sampler by "Hatched and Patched."

Didn't get too far, but now that I have my patriotic
projects completed, I can work on this in the
evenings.

Included in our kit was a frame to put our
finished stitchery in which was so nice and
unexpected:

One of the ladies attending the class crochets
these cute little "spool pin" doilies that fit over
the thread "spool pin" on your sewing machine
and gave us each one.  We also got a copy
of the instructions in case we want to make
some to share with others.

I had made a list of a couple of pieces of fabric
needed for a project and hadn't planned on
making any other purchases as I had just about wore
myself out finishing my patriotic projects.

But.....wouldn't you know it, they had several
"can't do without" Halloween projects on display.
I said to myself, "it's only July!  Not October!"

Knowing how fast things sell out and that orders
for seasonal fabrics are placed months ahead and
that stores can seldom get re-orders, Jo Ann and I
succumbed to their enticements and each bought
a pattern that we will share.  I don't have a copy
of her wall hanging, but I picked up the table
runner pattern:

The fabrics they had selected were so cute
and sadly, they were just about out of some.
So, we decided we best pick up some
of the pieces that we liked:

The lavender in front is the background for
the hats.

The fabric on the left will be fussy cut for the
hexagons on the wall quilt and the one on the
right will be the border for the table runner.
We still have a few pieces to find, but am glad we
got what we did today.  Things around here go so
fast, and if you wait until August or September,
it is pretty picked over.

Also picked up this instruction sheet for a
Thanksgiving banner:  Hopefully when I got back
in August they will have more kits.  If not, I'm sure
I can find enough fabrics in my stash.

These little mini banners are so fun.  Made several
with my daughter for Christmas gifts last year.
They usually have them for each season and work
up very quickly.

So, here I am wondering if it is July or October?
But, if I want these done for fall and don't want to
kill myself off like I did trying to get my patriotic
things done, it is time to get started!
