It was with a little...

It was with a little fear and trepidation that I left home four years ago
today to meet with my Oncologist.  It had been a long, hard road
to tread during the year.  Although I felt in my heart that things were
going to be alright, nerves and anxiety accompanied me as I sat
in his office waiting for him.

As he walked into the office, with that "smile" on his face, I
knew everything was good.  His comment "You are cancer
free" was the best news I could have received.  I wanted to
jump up and down, but I restrained myself.  He told me I would
now be in "watchful waiting" and would not  have to come
see him for three months!  (Now it is every 4 months)
That was the best news!

Today my heart is filled with gratitude for these past four years
and the blessings that have come to me.  I am so grateful for
good doctors who recognized "Inflammatory Breast Cancer"
because many do not and send you to a dermatologist and
with this type of cancer it is of the up most importance to act
quickly.  There is no lump.  I'm glad I also researched it and
that my diagnosis was correct even though it scared me to death.

I am so grateful for a loving family that gave up so much
to help me and see me through the difficult times.

My hope and prayer is that those of you who read this blog,
will keep up with breast examinations, mammograms and watch
for anything unusal.  And, above all, DON'T put off seeing
your doctor even if you think it may be nothing.

And for any of you who are going through cancer treatments
or have loved ones fighting cancer, hang in there!  There is
always hope and new treatments, medicines, etc. are being
discovered every day.

I'm  thankful to be a breast cancer survivor and to be
numbered among all those brave and courageous women
who fought the fight and are here to tell about it!

Thanks for celebrating my remission with me last night loved ones!

  2. Such wonderful news Nola! And thanks for the words of warning too. It's good for us to hear these kinds of things from people who have been through it, not just from our doctors.

    Stay healthy!

  5. Hi Nola!

I am so glad that you took action when you did! Cancer has and will always be such a scary word to me, it has always filled me with fear. I love hearing stories like yours, stories about strong, courageous women like yourself, who so bravely fought and won the battle with cancer. You are such a source of encouragement and hope! Thank you for telling us your story - it makes me want to try harder to be diligent about self-exams and mammograms.

And on a little selfish note...what would I do without a sweet freind like you?

    Hugs and love,
    Barb
